Moving away from Theme Writing and Finding our Voices

Moving away from Theme Writing and Finding our Voices The attempt to discover my voice may seem less than insightful for the audience in which this paper is intended. It is quite a relief that I dont have to write a theme, pretending to be an expert on finding voice. The concept of voice is very new for me because I wasnt aware that I was conveying a tone or attitude in my writing that was so profoundly obvious. In preparation for this discussion I have spent time re-reading former assignments trying to hear the voice present in them. I think the concept of voice, as well as the new deliberate avoidance from theme writing, has put the entire class in the same boat. In this respect our writing talents are maturing. If the paper†¦show more content†¦I have been able to maintain a quality of writing, and have not been able to successfully explore the creative realms beyond it. What I can write today, does not exceed in quality, anything I have written in my first freshman English classes. I could condemn the professors who deprive d me of the criticism which has allowed me to remain at such an infantile stage, however, if the guidelines for the assignment were met, they probably didnt know what kind of criticism to make. I believe my true voice can be found in writings where I have been completely honest, genuine, and for the most part uninhibited by a defined purpose. I can find a voice that is very reflective of who I really am, in the letters I write to people. I am not referring to the hi, hows the weather? letters to Grandma and Grandpa living out in Phoenix. I am referring to the letters in which I am writing down what I would want to say in conversation. My voice is most prevalent in letter writing. Often times I look back on an important conversation and wish I would have remembered to tell the other person something I thought was important for them to know, especially when I am expressing how I feel about something. I find that letters allow me to communicate in a more preconceived manner and because I am less likely to leave out what needs to be said, the person reading my letter gets to know exactly how IShow MoreRelatedThe Irish Capital Of Dublin By James Joyce1412 Words   |  6 PagesJ ames Joyce’s style of writing is very unique and uncommon when you compare it to other authors. In Dubliners, possibly one of his most famous pieces of writing Joyce portrays fifteen passages of life in the Irish capital of Dublin. What makes Joyce’s style of writing different from other authors is that Joyce focuses his writing on one specific moment in a Dubliner’s life, no matter if that moment is only within a few months, weeks, days, or even within just one night. Joyce’s objective within thisRead MoreEssay on The House on Mango Street and the Style of Sandra Cisneros1669 Words   |  7 PagesThe House on Mango Street and the Style of Sandra Cisneros Clearly, Sandra Cisneros writing style is one representative of a minority voice. Her amazing style allows her readers to take an active part in the minority experience. For this reason, I believe Cisneros has had a lot of influence and success in the status of minority writers, especially in the canon of what is read and taught in schools today. But, more than anything, Cisneros has shown that liberation can come through creativityRead MoreBob Marleys Redemption Song933 Words   |  4 Pageswhere he developed a strong love of reggae and became a Rastafari. We’ve recently gotten to the awkward transition between the â€Å"getting to know each other† stage and the â€Å"I love you to the moon and back† stage. I know that I have grown to enjoy the process of expressing my inner-most thoughts through writing, but at the same time I feel as if I don’t have the proper skills or knowledge to call myself a â€Å"good† writer. Using bleak and hopeless themes, his works depict a harsh attack on realism and challenge the very meaning of life.
